Children who are underserved in India are impacted by poverty in a variety of ways

Let’s Help Each Other

Poverty affects millions of children in India who come from underprivileged households. When it comes to the immediate and long-term repercussions of poverty, these kids are among the most negatively impacted demographics. It is one of the things that causes different children to be deprived of their fundamental rights and prevents them from having access to everything they need for happy and healthy childhoods. Infant/child mortality and educational attainment are just two examples of how poorly children’s lives are lived. To find out how poverty affects children in India’s poorer households, keep reading:

1. Education is one of the first aspects of a child’s life to suffer when fundamental requirements are not satisfied. In 2016, an estimated 46.24 million children did not attend school (DISE 2016-17 and RGI Census Population Projection 2016). a figure that will only increase if the cause, which is poverty, is not dealt with. In many Indian villages, education is still seen as a luxury. It is treated with less priority than daily and minimum pay.

2. Another undeniable aspect of a child’s life that is neglected in families struggling with poverty is their health. Every third child under the age of five in India is underdeveloped or extremely malnourished, according to the NFHS 4 2016 report. This is also a result of a lack of awareness that causes serious health problems at a young age. Several children’s conditions deteriorate as a result of incomplete vaccines, inadequate nutrition, etc.

3. Another significant societal problem that is growing at an alarming rate in India as a result of poverty is child labour. In India, there are around 10 million working children (under the age of 14) as per the 2011 Census. To help feed the many people who are starving, many families send their kids off to work odd jobs (in restaurants, shops, factories, and other illegal operations). Throughout their formative years, employment is cognitively, physically, and emotionally devastating for children. That keeps him trapped in the cycle of poverty and denies him the opportunity for a better future.

The impact of poverty in India is damaging the potential of at-risk children in many more aspects of their lives and placing them in danger.
